PILATES FOR THE MATURE CLIENT BY SHERI LONG (FIRST TIME IN AUSTRALIA)
Growing old does not have to mean giving up an active lifestyle. Whether it’s continuing to play tennis, golf or simply playing with grandchildren, Pilates can help to keep the mature client active, but the instructors who deal with them need to understand the limitations of their elderly clients.
This two day workshop will address your client’s specific needs, such as musculoskeletal issues, diseases and other physical changes that are common in the older population. You will learn modifications and many variations to the original BASI repertoire.
By applying the correct tools, appropriate exercises, and precautions, you will be able to take your clients safely through a session or mat class that will assist them in maintaining an active quality of life.
Mat Work Day
Mat classes are wonderful for this population but many of the exercises may be contraindicated. Discuss in depth the reasons for the contraindications and general needs of this age group.
General needs such as maintaining a healthy cardiovascular system, strength training, mobility, balance and coordination, mindful stimulation and also some of the emotional and mental changes that occur as we age. We will discuss conditions such as osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, disc conditions, spinal conditions and C.O.P.D. (chronic obstructive Pulmonary disease).
This is the largest growing population globally they are living longer and want to stay active. It is my honour and I feel my responsibility to help them maintain a happy, healthy lifestyle!
